When our Lady appeared to the three children of Fatima, Portugal in 1917, one of her instructions, interestingly enough, was that they were to learn how to read. Reading is a fundamental way that wisdom is transmitted down through the ages. Even though the books listed below were not all written by Catholic authors, or with a clear Catholic worldview, they have played a part in forming our culture, and Dr. Senior considered them safe for children to read. We would add that to call the culture around us back to its noble roots in Christian society, this literature is of lasting value.
